What To Expect

Your First Visit

If you have never had a massage before, you may be wondering what to expect on your first visit to Serenity Massage and Day Spa. Our ultimate goal is your health and relaxation so we want you to feel comfortable the moment you walk through our door.

Getting To Know You

Your massage or spa treatment is tailored to meet your needs and the best way to know what you want is to get to know you. Our friendly staff will welcome you and give you a few minutes to fill out your intake form. The intake form is where you can record any medical history, past or present injuries or other physical conditions that we should be aware of.

Once you have completed the form, your massage practitioner will go over it with you, asking about your goals for the treatment that day, if there are any current conditions that might affect treatment and if there are any specific areas where you would like her to focus. This is your chance to share where you are physically, mentally and emotionally that day to optimize your treatment. On subsequent visits, your massage practitioner will ask about any changes or continuing conditions, further tailoring your experience to be exactly what you need.

To ensure that you receive the best possible care, custom-tailored to your needs, we ask you to fill out an intake form when you visit us. A printable version of our form is available though the link below so you can fill it out prior to your visit.

A Comfortable Space

Our spa is designed with your comfort and relaxation in mind. The moment you walk through our doors and into our cozy lobby, feel the tension begin to melt off of your shoulders. As you savor our gourmet coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, let your worries slip away. Enter one of our private treatment rooms and let the soft lighting and serene atmosphere transport you to an oasis of relaxation and healing. Ease the tension of your busy life with a visit to our sparkling clean foot soak and rejuvenate your feet and legs.

Beginning Your Treatment

Your massage practitioner will show you to one of the private treatment rooms where you will find a comfortable massage table with fresh, clean sheets waiting for you. There will be a space for your personal belongings and a chair for your use. Your massage practitioner will leave the room to give you the privacy to disrobe to your level of comfort. While disrobing always includes turning off your cell phone and removing jewelry, you can choose to remain partially clothed or disrobe completely, whichever option makes you feel the most relaxed and ready for your massage. Most avid massage-goers choose to disrobe completely. Once you have disrobed, you may lie on the massage table and cover yourself with the top sheet. After a few minutes, your massage practitioner will knock and ask if you are ready before entering your room. During the massage, you will be covered by the sheet at all times except for the area being massaged to ensure your modesty is respected. If you are too cool during the massage, let your massage practitioner know as massage works better when you are warm; we will provide additional blankets upon request.

During Your Massage

Your comfort is essential in your massage. The table is padded to aid in your relaxation and your massage practitioner will move your limbs for you (the relaxed weight creates gentle pressure to aid in the treatment), asking if she needs you to move or shift position. There will be relaxing music playing and if you would like the volume adjusted or the music turned off completely, feel free to let your massage practitioner know. You may talk or not during your massage but having a conversation could keep you from feeling as fully relaxed as you might otherwise become. With that in mind, it is good to let your massage practitioner know if anything is uncomfortable or you would like more or less pressure during the massage. Serenity uses only high quality lotions, creams and oils during massages but please let us know if you have concerns about skin sensitivity.

After Your Massage

Once your massage therapy is complete, your massage practitioner will leave the room to give you privacy to re-dress. Once you return home, you should drink extra water to help flush out waste products moved around due to the increased circulation of massage. A hot bath with Epsom salts is another way to remove the toxins from the extremities of your body. Deep tissue or injury/pain treatment massage may leave you feeling sore for a day or two. If you were experiencing pain when you came in for the massage, the general expectation is that you may be sore the first day, but by the second day you should feel looser and probably have less pain. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call or stop in to speak to someone.
